This is a follow-up to my earlier post on Tuck Scholarhood…it turns out that the process isn’t exactly shrouded in secrecy, it’s just that you have to ask a few questions to the right people.
Here’s how it works: Your grades are transferred to a number system on the following scale:
H = 4
S+ = 3
S =2
LP […]
There has been some talk of late about the process of selecting Tuck Scholars. This idle chatter does not permeate the community…many students wouldn’t dare discuss grades, not in civilized company where their comments might be misinterpreted as arrogance or might give the impression that they actually care about grades. But behind closed doors, among […]
I am running for class secretary.
Leslie and I have teamed up to combat the “axis of evil.” Leslie and I were in study group together in winter term…they say that relationships formed under hardship are stronger than normal relationships. I promise you that Leslie and I have endured hell together, and our friendship […]
There have been some interesting comments on the last few posts. (Go figure….write something depressing and people will try to make you feel better! :) )
Some of the comments reside on my blog, while others reside in Facebook. I wish I could get them to automatically sync up, so that readers could continue to enjoy […]
The last few days have been pretty brutal. I think I’m having a mid-life crisis, if that’s possible at 28.
It feels like my life choices are being cut off, one by one. Two nights ago I decided that I could not commit my time to a startup, and am now acting in an advisory role. […]
I just got back from the annual Tuck talent show. I took a break from the Independent Study to absorb some humor from my classmates, thinking it would leave me feeling refreshed and positive.
Instead, I am left empty inside. Like a good consultant, I will structure my emptiness into 3 buckets:
1. My classmates […]
Ethics class today was great. Professor Bernard guest-led a session on the ethics of international supply chains.
I somehow found myself taking the stand that assisted suicide is OK. As usual, great genius is misunderstood. All I was trying to say is that if workers willingly chose to enter a contract, who are we to judge […]
No, I’m not talking about those lovely pieces of uncomfortable outdoor furniture….I’m talking about a simple way to really piss someone off. The Park Bench.
It’s easy. All you need are two people: the kneeler and the pusher. The kneeler’s job is to discreetly position himself behind the target, on all fours. […]
I am a serial procrastinator. I am terrible with deadlines. This is my Achilles heel.
Some, like Ellen DeGeneres , have argued that life is about procrastination, that we all need to stop, every once in a while, and smell the roses. That is how I justify my actions….I smear the non-procrastinators as […]
As some of you know, I am involved in a startup with some friends from Tuck. We are looking to get some some feedback from people about some of our ideas, and we want to set up a website to give people a chance to share their thoughts. We would need to password-protect the site […]
at least in this video…

Alasdair is quickly replacing Tim as my nerdy computer friend. He introduced me to Bloglines, inspired me to start this blog, and is now changing my life with Book Mooch. And he’s always good for the latest and greatest on YouTube. With a newborn baby in house, he’s likely to offer tons of useful tips […]
My friend Alasdair just introduced me to Book Mooch, a website for trading books. Like all brilliant ideas, the concept is simple: you get 1 point for each book you give away, and you lose 1 point for each book you “buy.”
I just signed up for an account and added 10 paperbacks to my […]
We scanned the pics from our 12-week ultrasound appointment last week. Check ‘em out here. You can see a hand!
I wrote previously about the fascist nurse who wouldn’t let me videotape. In her defense, she gave us 9 pics, which was nice.
Ok, so it was Jewish Exponent. But still.
Here’s a memorable line: “Well, it’s not really the school but The Tuck Profit, a satirical send-up of a mag not associated with the school, but put out by some of its edgier business students looking for a night of 401(k) laughs:”
If I die tomorrow, let it be […]
I stumbled across an article in The Dartmouth today about a new Christian academic journal called Apologia. From the article:
Schuman has said that he can already point to some success in fostering dialogue. Blogs on the Apologia website, for example, have led to discussions on the nature of hell. Apologia is also sponsoring a […]
Yesterday, a guest speaker in one of my classes made me want to run down the hill and jump into the Connecticut River.
We had 2 speakers in class, and the first was dynamic, entertaining and provided a fresh perspective on life. He was great.
The second speaker, in stark contrast, gave a soul-crushing presentation filled with […]
As I prepare to transition to the next stage of my life, I wish to thank you, loyal readers of the Tuck Profit, for your support. You have been with me from the beginning, and I have made you all wealthy in humor. The unspoken question–what happens if you graduate?–must finally be answered. As I’ve […]
Unbelievable. I’d write what I think, but it’s already written here.
The Reverend Jerry Falwell passed away today. The New York Times had his obituary ready, it seems. (I know, I know, they have lots of obituaries ready, but still, it amuses me)
So is Falwell’s death good news for America? Of course not. Life is precious and we should never wish […]
here’s a short video clip I took this morning from the roof of the barn.

I counted 7 motorcycles at Tuck yesterday. I know I said I wanted a segway, but maybe I’ll save my money so that I can afford a bike when I hit my mid-life crisis (anticipated in the next 2-5 years).
If you’re interested in the connections between economics and evolution, check out Harvard Prof Greg Mankiw’s blog here. He links to an article by Emory prof Paul Rubin and opens up his blog for comments. Fascinating discussion. From what I can tell, lots of professors and academic types read and contribute to his blog.
Loyal readers […]
We went to DHMC for ultrasound #2 today. The baby is now 6.7 centimeters long, or approximately 2.64 inches. Woo Hoo!
I wanted to show you video, but the stupid annoying fascist technician wouldn’t allow video in her ultrasound room. Grrrrrrr! I told her that my people (you, dear readers) were expecting […]
I just discovered a cool new (free) product called Google Sketchup. My father-in-law (an artistic engineer) will LOVE this tool. From Google:
Developed for the conceptual stages of design, Google SketchUp is a powerful yet easy-to-learn 3D software tool that combines a simple, yet robust tool-set with an intelligent drawing system that streamlines and […]
