I found a cool Web 2.0-ish tool on the New York Times website, for comparing financial implications of renting vs. buying. You input a few key variables like monthly rent, purchase price, taxes, mortgage rates etc. and then move some sliders that adjust annual appreciation in home value or rent prices, and the graph changes in front of your eyes.
