Class of 2007 website

I registered www.tuck2007.com yesterday. Your class secretaries (Leslie and I) have already started thinking about ways to use the Internet to help our class stay connected. Here are a few ideas for the site:

  • A form to make it easy for people to submit their updates to us
  • A discussion forum organized by region, to help facilitate class events in various cities
  • A blog that anyone can subscribe to
    • that anyone can update
    • that only Leslie and I can update
  • A wiki-type application that anyone can update
  • An “O-drive” for picture-sharing

Other questions:

  • Should it be completely open or require a password?
  • Do enough people use feed readers that the class would benefit from RSS feeds?
  • I like Wordpress…is there better blog software I should consider?

I’d love to get some feedback….leave some comments.

No password (initially) - you can always add one later, but if you want people to sign up and actually use the service, you should avoid it at first. I doubt many people will wander onto the site and feel inclined to post. The only issue will be comment spam.

Word press is good and free. Typepad is arguably better, but a) you'll have to learn it and b) it costs money...

I doubt many people use RSS, but you may as well use it as a platform as I suspect in a few years we'll all be pro's at using RSS
