We just signed a lease in Stamford, CT, 3 blocks from my office and 2 blocks from lots of restaurants/bars etc.
We looked at a ton of places from Norwalk, CT to the East Village to Park Slope. We don’t feel like we were forced to live in Stamford. We are choosing to live here. We are choosing space, an on-site gym, a dishwasher, a washer/dryer, an easy commute, and $1,150 extra cash in our pockets every month.
We didn’t even go to Brooklyn today. I spoke with a future colleague who lives in Brooklyn, and we continued to digest all of the information we’ve received to date. The bottom line is that a 2BR apartment would have eaten up most of our budget, prevented us from saving anything for the future (or developing a bank of “F U Money”), and resulted in a hellish commute for me. We wouldn’t be able to afford any of the restaurants or shops that surrounded us. We would have felt helpless, reckless, enslaved, and stupid.
Now we feel empowered, intelligent, and excited! Woo Hoo!
